Founded in Denmark in 1998, Furlerboom has established itself as a specialist in in-boom furling systems.
With its flagship model, the V-Shape, the brand offers a solution designed for larger cruising boats, particularly multihulls.
The V-Shape system is based on a carbon mandrel integrated into a composite boom, available in fiberglass or full carbon versions. Each model is custom-made, combining strength, lightness, and aesthetics.
The sail is furled directly into the boom, eliminating the need for lazy bags and lazy jacks - and significantly improving airflow over the sail. Unlike an in-mast furling system, the sail can still be fully battened and have a good roach, ensuring efficiency and performance. On the other hand, square-topped mainsails cannot be fully furled, and are therefore not recommended.
The mechanism is positioned very low, which limits rig fatigue and helps to lower the center of gravity compared to an in-mast furling system.
On larger cruising multihulls, where mainsails can often exceed 750 square feet (70 m²), the V-Shape offers more elegant lines, easier sailing maneuvers when short-handed, and increased safety.
The system has already won over some of the major boatbuilders and is establishing itself as a suitable solution for large cruising multihulls.
We’re planning to test one soon on board an Aura 51 - watch this space!
