Winner of multiple international awards (Boat Builder Awards, DAME Overall Winner, Pittman Award, IBEX Winner, Chuck Husick Innovation Award), the E-Drive’s status as a benchmark innovation for more sustainable boating is quiteclear.
The promise of this propulsion system is that you can leave port silently, recharge your batteries a few minutes later under sail, and save 25% on fuel. Already chosen by multihull builders such as Balance Catamarans and Antares, the E-Drive combines electric propulsion and on-board energy production in a compact module installed between the combustion engine and the transmission. This technology is designed for cruising multihulls, where range and on-board comfort are essential factors. In a twin-engine configuration, the 30 DE version delivers up to 30 kW of power and the equivalent of 40 HP of electric propulsion, with approximately 11 kW of continuous generation when cruising. At less than 150 mm (6 inches) in width and relatively light (110 kg/220 lbs), the module can be installed in both new and retrofit applications, on saildrives or on propshafts.
This hybrid solution will be on display at the forthcoming La Rochelle Boat Show in France (September 23 to 28, Eco-navigation and Sustainable Innovations area). The editorial team from Multihulls World will be at the show to test the E-Drive at sea and will, of course, be sharing their experience.
