Seiko is celebrating the 110th anniversary of its first wristwatch this year with the release of a series of commemorative timepieces, including a new Prospex diver's watch, clearly inspired by Seiko's rich technical and design heritage.
The silver-white color of the dial and the striated texture are reminiscent of the glow from a polar glacier. Indeed, it was in these extreme latitudes and conditions that the reputation for reliability and durability of Seiko watches was forged in the 1960s and 1970s, when adventurers and researchers wore them during expeditions to both the North and South Poles.
The case of the SPB333 pays homage to the 1968 Seiko 6105-8000 diver's watch, whose curved silhouette and crown positioned at four o'clock went on to inspire the design of many iconic diving watches.
The watch is presented on a five-row steel bracelet with a secure clasp and folding buckle, is accompanied by an additional polyester strap made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. The 6R35 Calibre, a proven automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour, offers a 70-hour power reserve. The stainless-steel case and bracelet feature an ultra-hard coating and the anti-reflective coating on the inner surface of the sapphire crystal ensures great readability from all angles. The twelve indices and hands are Lumibrite-coated for optimal readability in the dark.
