Safety Shifts up a Gear with AI

Our editorial team met up with Thomas Degermann, Product Director at SEA.AI. Together, we discovered Watchkeeper, winner of the Innovation Award at the Cannes Yachting Festival. This machine vision solution marks a new stage in access to 24/7 intelligent surveillance with the aim of enhancing the safety of our multihulls.

Formerly known as OSCAR, the system has already proven itself in the world of ocean racing, particularly aboard the Ultims competing in transatlantic races, but also in offshore cruising. With Watchkeeper, SEA.AI is now setting a new course: to make this technology more accessible and optimized for both coastal navigation and long passages. Watchkeeper combines ultra-wide-angle 4K cameras, day and night vision, thermal sensors (optional), and intelligent image analysis. The device continuously detects a wide variety of floating objects: small unlit boats, drifting containers, buoys, debris, marine mammals, and even a man overboard. Alerts appear in real time on multifunction displays and cellphone apps, allowing the crew to anticipate and react quickly.

Available from € 4,990, Watchkeeper comes in three configurations. The dawn-to-dusk model covers daytime and twilight navigation; the intermediate version adds night vision; while the most comprehensive version maximizes field of view and detection range.
