EDITORIAL

Better than the good old days?

The news from multihull builders is sounding pretty good - while a little more than a year ago we were fearing that order books would melt like ice cubes in the sun, purchasing commitments have held up. Better still, many more private individuals have committed themselves, almost erasing the slowdown from the major charter companies, who have been severely affected by the movement restrictions. There have been delays and tensions here and there: engine supplies from the Far East are under close scrutiny, some materials are running out and transport costs are soaring... But the post-Covid 19 period that is coming up augurs well for our world of two- and three-hulled boats. More than ever, we want to be out there alone, or with family or friends, aboard a multihull and enjoy some good times once again - only better! As for the shipyards, many initiatives are going in this direction: more comfort, but also a greater respect for the environment. Purification of wastewater discharge, use of recyclable materials, all-out research into electricity production using hydrogen, widespread use of electric motors, optimization of solar panels... all these actions are no longer pious wishes but have become the day-to-day work of the design teams. And we’re saluting them with a new section: multi forever green.
