Multihulls World, the Magazine for ALL Multihulls!

Today, while logging in as administrator of our YouTube channel, I was able to read this delightful comment on my video live from our seatrial of the ORC 52.2: “We don’t care about your millionaires’ lives.” Yes, at Multihulls World, as in all media, we too are entitled to receive these “polite” messages that, of course, their authors would never dare say to our faces. They think; They’re hidden behind their screens; They write. Our correspondents almost forget that the space we open up to them on our social media is first and foremost our own - and is not meant to turn into a public venting ground. Anyways…

If I chose to share this comment with you, it’s because it gives me the opportunity to take a look at the market. Yes, the size of the average new multihull has grown over the last 10 years from 44 to 50 feet. Yes, the average price tag has risen from € 500,000 to € 1,000,000. And yet, all manufacturers have been rolling out a price-cut policy for more than a year. Proof? Our “millionaire” ORC 52.2 costs only € 29,100 more than a Lagoon 51!

This message is also a chance to reaffirm Multihulls World’s editorial line: We will always be about ALL multihulls. We readily point out that the entry price for a new livable trimaran like the Astus 16.5 starts at € 20,000, and that the used market meanwhile opens itself up to all budgets. And just for the record: the day after my outing aboard the new ORC, I was sailing on a Tricat 6.90 Performance XL… which has a price tag 11.5 times lower.

And while we’re on the subject of YouTube: we’re about to launch a second, 100% French-language channel so that the algorithm can give more reach to our productions made in French. At the same time, our “legacy” channel will focus on English-language content.

Happy reading and watching!
