We’re on course for the 12th edition and are hoping to forget the annus horribilis that was 2020 which deprived us... of the 11th rendezvous of all the multihulls. In fact, it’s going to be this year that the new name of the show will be used, validated to emphasize the international dimension of the event. In order to give every chance in terms of the health situation, the organizers didn’t hesitate to postpone the dates of the show by three weeks to schedule it at the end of April and beginning of May.
It’s already been 12 years since the show which began in Lorient, Brittany, established itself as the most important meeting in the multihull calendar. Firstly, because it is unique: with more than 60 cruising catamarans and trimarans expected this year, this boat show is the only opportunity in the world to see all the new boats at once (more than twenty of them making their world or European premiere) and the major part of the main multihull builders’ ranges. An event which has remained on a human scale: availability of the builders, an atmosphere which is always convivial, and relaxed, easy access, thanks to a footbridge which connects the eastern side of the port with the large car park for the professionals.
Initially, the idea of the International Multihull Show’s organizers was to alternate between the French Atlantic coast – where two of the biggest builders in the world, Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot, are based – and the Mediterranean coast, where the likes of Catana/Bali and Outremer/Gunboat are to be found. Finally, the South of France prevailed in the long term. So it now takes place at La Grande Motte, at around ten kilometers (6 miles) from Montpelier’s international airport.
The chances of enjoying five dry, sunny days in late April / early May are much higher on the Languedoc coast compared to the Breton weather - so much the better, as the 15,000 expected visitors will spend most of their time outside. Make no mistake, the IMS is an outdoor show, with multihulls afloat. Many of which already have slots reserved for our teams to do the first tests.
Multihulls World will of course have its own booth at the show, and we’ll be expecting many of you to come along and share sailing stories, experiences, and of course to belatedly celebrate our 200th edition! As a long-standing partner of the show, Multihulls World will be presenting the Multihull of the Year awards on April 27th, the eve of the show opening. For the winning multihulls, victory will be clearly visible, that’s a promise!
