Long Island 87'

Aluminum Hulls and a Giant Flybridge

JFA Yachts, the Concarneau-based shipyard specializing in custom yacht construction, has just launched and stepped the mast on its new Long Island 87'.

This 86'1" (26.25 m) sailing catamaran follows the two Long Island 85s, which have already demonstrated their offshore capabilities on voyages to Antarctica, Greenland, the Pacific and the Baltic Sea.

Designed by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, the Long Island 87' retains the mixed construction favored by the Brittany-based builder, with aluminum hulls and a composite deck and superstructure. Her light displacement of 58 t and sail area of 3,875 sq ft (360 m²) reflect a bluewater cruising program that doesn't overlook sailing performance.

The main innovation is on the upper deck: an enormous flybridge featuring two helm stations, a sheltered bar and a spacious lounge. The T-top will also accommodate solar panels designed to reduce genset running time at anchor. Aft, the platform can carry a 16'5" (5 m) tender before transforming into an area for swimming and watersports.

With a beam of 39'2" (11.93 m) and 1,335 sq ft (124 m²) of living space, the Long Island 87' can accommodate up to 10 guests and four crew members. Darnet Design has created a customized interior, notably featuring a full-beam Owner's cabin on the main deck with 180° panoramic views. The port hull houses its bathroom, a children's cabin with four berths and a guest cabin. The starboard hull accommodates a second guest cabin and the crew quarters, with two cabins, a dedicated galley and a saloon.

The cruising plans for this new Long Island are already set: her Owners intend to sail around the world as a family of four. The yacht was sold by David Johnson of Denison Yachting, who is also responsible for marketing the Long Island range.
