Tyrena

The ambition is considerable: to offer an alternative to very large motor yachts by combining slender hulls with the OceanWings rigid-wing technology that VPLP has been working on for more than fifteen years.

This experience notably dates back to USA 17, winner of the 2010 America’s Cup, and has since been applied to projects as different as the cargo ship Canopée and the MODX 70. On Tyrena, VPLP claims fuel savings of up to 40% in hybrid mode and an increase in range from 3,800 to 6,400 nautical miles thanks to assistance from the wings. More spectacularly still, the catamaran is claimed to be capable of reaching 12 knots under wind power alone in 17 knots of wind.
VPLP is responsible for the naval architecture and performance of the project, while the design is being developed with Micheletti & Partners. The immense platform provided by the two hulls allows for numerous terraces, patios and spaces opening onto the sea. Aft, a movable platform lowers at anchor to connect the two hulls, while the coachroof incorporates movable panels designed to naturally channel air into the interior. Forward, the concept becomes even more spectacular, with a genuine amphitheater combined with an infinity pool.
For now, Tyrena remains a concept and is therefore waiting for the client who will turn these 76 meters into reality. But among the superyachts gathered in Monaco, VPLP and Micheletti & Partners are above all seeking to demonstrate that even at this scale, wind can once again become a genuine source of propulsion.
