Pioneer PY60

Finally in the Water… and Almost Silent!

Arriving a little late at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the very first PY60 from Pioneer Yachts ultimately made it in time for its world premiere.

We were even able to step aboard for a few hours of cruising around the Lérins Islands. This particularly quiet and relaxing outing gave us the opportunity to discover this new 60-foot (18.3 m) powercat built in Stralsund, Germany. Designed by Cossutti & Ganz, the PY60 was developed around a 48 V solar-electric architecture and features two 50 kW electric motors powered notably by 16.7 kWp of solar panels.

At 5 knots, the builder claims a range of 150 nautical miles in fully electric mode and up to 5,000 nautical miles with the hybrid system, while top speed reaches 11 knots.
Hull #1 is fitted out in a four-cabin version. Inside, the design by Micheletti + Partners stands out for its very clean finish and original approach to lighting. The builder claims more than 2,153 sq ft (200 m²) of living space and also emphasizes ease of operation with a very small crew. Outside, the most striking features are the two large trampolines installed forward: a configuration that has become rather unusual on modern powercats, which now almost systematically favor solid foredecks. A little touch of sailing catamaran that, in the end, we rather like…
