The Multihulls World community is very familiar with Jonathan Jagot: this young sailor turned YouTuber with a passion for photography has been collaborating with the magazine for over 10 years now. After selling his trusty ferrocement ketch, Jonathan moved to Cape Town to carry out a project that has been close to his heart for years: designing and building Reflex, the catamaran of his dreams. In the meantime, there are now two units, as a sister ship has been ordered...
Jonathan shares with us the first images and specifications of his next blue water multihull. Designed by Du Toit Yacht Design, Reflex offers a very balanced compromise between speed and comfort, as evidenced by its sail area/weight ratio of 9.70 m²/t. The speed polars promise 7 to 10 knots upwind and 9 to 12 knots downwind with 12 to 20 knots of wind, good light-airs performance with 5.5 to 7.5 knots in 6 to 10 knots of wind. The expected maximum speeds are around 15 to 18 knots downwind in the right conditions. “Reflex prioritizes a safe and versatile approach, a catamaran capable of covering miles quickly, while remaining easy to handle, comfortable, and suited to long-distance cruising,” explains Jonathan. “This isn't a boat looking for absolute performance, but rather the right performance, the kind that really matters when crossing oceans - that's the philosophy behind this multihull!”
