Scimitar 1010

Almost 30 Years Old and Still in the Lineup!

While most major multihull builders update their models every six years on average, Australian builder Scimitar Boats takes a very different approach. Quite the opposite, in fact, since its Scimitar 1010 was launched in 1997. Yes, you read that correctly: almost 30 years ago!

Built in Brisbane, with more than 70 units produced, this Peter Brady design continues its career with a range that is regularly updated. Alongside the traditional Flybridge version, there is now a lower-profile Sedan version, designed to provide single-level circulation while making it easier to pass under bridges.

Measuring 36' (10.97 m) in length with a beam of 16'5" (5 m), the 1010 features semi-displacement hulls with rounded chines, combined with an active trim-control system. Propulsion remains deliberately conventional: two 150 to 250 hp diesel engines drive conventional shafts, with the propellers protected by the integrated keels on both hulls. Draft remains under 3'3" (1 m). At 15 to 18 knots, the builder claims a combined fuel consumption of just 7.9 to 10.6 US gal/h (30 to 40 l/h), a top speed of 25 knots and a range of up to 950 nautical miles.
The accommodations have recently been redesigned and can provide two double berths and two single berths. Two trim levels are available, Weekender and Platinum. The hardtop can accommodate up to 1.5 kWp of solar panels, combined with a battery bank of up to 800 Ah, potentially eliminating the need for a genset, depending on the configuration chosen.
