Going up the rig to work requires stable, comfortable, and reliable support. However, conventional mast steps are often hard, slippery, noisy, or prone to aging. With the SoftStep+, manufacturer One Palma offers a much more suitable solution, which was recognized with a 2025 DAME Award in the Deck Equipment category.
The SoftStep+ has been designed as a genuine workstation. Its curved surface naturally conforms to the arch of the foot and incorporates interchangeable soft-touch foam, designed to remain comfortable over time. Opening and closing are achieved by a magnetic system, without mechanical play, making it easy to operate, even with one hand. During our conversation at Metstrade, David, the product's engineer and designer, demonstrated how easy it is to unfold and fold the device, without any effort.
Another unique feature of the SoftStep+ is its material: 3D-printed Ti6Al4V titanium. This choice eliminates the risk of corrosion, reduces weight (297 g/10½ oz.), and guarantees high mechanical strength. Each step can support up to 150 kg/330 lbs of working load, making it safe for extended use such as climbing the mast when short-handed.
One Palma has also integrated MWSS, a dual-function system that allows the SoftStep+ to be used as a passive anchor point for working at height or as a 2:1 purchase for hoisting equipment from the deck.
