The main new feature is NEON™, Simrad’s new operating system, with an interface clearly inspired by our smartphones. A customizable activity bar provides quick access to the most frequently used functions and makes it easy to switch between charts, radar, autopilot and the various onboard systems. The NSO 4 is designed as a genuine control center, with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, NMEA 2000, Wi-Fi and video connections, as well as compatibility with HALO® radars, autopilots, cameras and C-MAP® charts.
Behind the Full HD touchscreen is an eight-core Qualcomm® processor. Compared with the NSO evo3S, Simrad claims startup times up to 35% faster, automatic route calculation up to ten times faster and eight times more storage capacity, with 128 GB of internal memory. The mounting system has also been redesigned: the unit is secured entirely from behind, with no visible screws on the front, a detail that should appeal to builders looking for particularly clean helm installations.
