The Nantes-Based Builder Is Looking for a Buyer

Less than a year after Thomas Brette took the helm, Black Pepper Yachts has entered court-supervised restructuring. Court-appointed administrator Marine Lebreton has just launched a search for potential buyers, with a deadline for submitting offers set for Monday, September 14 at noon.

Founded in 2007, the builder, which specializes in carbon construction, employs 15 people in Nantes. As of August 31, 2025, it reported revenue of € 9.97 million and net income of € 281,000. The reasons that led to the opening of the proceedings have not been specified. Thomas Brette took over management of the builder in the summer of 2025, succeeding founder Michel Douville de Franssu.

For us, the future of Black Pepper is all the more worth following as the builder has recently turned to multihulls. Designed by François Pérus and Romain Scolari, the Code C.69 is a fast bluewater cruising catamaran measuring around 69 feet (21 m) and making extensive use of infused carbon. A first hull has already been built, making the question of whether the program will continue a very concrete one.

The C.69 is also intended to pave the way for the Code C.100, another Yacht Design Collective project. This all-carbon 98-foot (30 m) catamaran has a beam of 46'7" (14.2 m), an announced light displacement of 60 tons and 4,413 sq ft (410 m²) of upwind sail area.

Finding a buyer will therefore be decisive for the future of the Nantes-based builder as well as for these two multihull programs.
