Still little known in Europe, Taiwanese brand GranOcean aims to shake up the luxury powercat market with an original approach: offering highly customizable semi-custom yachts at a price claimed to be more accessible than those of the leading specialists in the segment.
The range comprises two series: the X-Series, with the X 24 and X 32, and the W-Series, with the W-60 and W-72. The latter, making its European premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival, perfectly illustrates the builder's philosophy. Measuring almost 72'1" (21.98 m), this powercat is designed above all for long-range cruising, with a particularly spacious platform, numerous layout options and substantial autonomy.
Designed by Stimson Marine Design and Howard Apollonio, with interiors by Vripack, the W-72 features well-developed hulls and generous bridge deck clearance to improve comfort in rough seas. Its flybridge is distinguished by lateral extensions ("wings") that increase the outdoor living areas while also protecting the cockpit and engine compartments.
The builder also highlights the wide range of configurations available, including an open or enclosed flybridge, a galley on the main deck or in the hulls, numerous cabin layouts, several interior design styles, different engine options, hybrid propulsion and a choice of hull colors.
GranOcean also claims particularly low fuel consumption at economical cruising speeds, with energy efficiency said to be significantly better than that of its main competitors.
