Optima Electric Boats

Monohull or trimaran?

Architect/designer David Kendall is offering an innovative range of electric cruising boats: the concept is to combine a neo-retro design and a very low-drag hull whose form is that of a monohull forward, yet a trimaran aft.

These hybrid lines promise reduced energy consumption - the designer claims a range in excess of 100 miles without hooking up to shore power, thanks to a combination of solar panels and a generator (or a hydrogen fuel cell). The three hulls aft ensure perfect stability both underway and at anchor. The first Optima presented measures 36 feet (11 meters). It can be fitted out with two double cabins and can seat 8 people around the cockpit table. The optional roof will provide protection against sun or rain.
The ergonomic helm station features a comfortable seat for two people, and the twin electric motors provide exceptional maneuverability, with docking controlled by a joystick.
