Apart from France’s Windelo shipyard, there are few builders offering multihulls that combine advanced performance features (lightweight carbon construction, powerful sail plan, and relatively narrow hulls) with electric propulsion. Now McConaghy Boats is entering this niche market, with a complete range.
It’s worth remembering that speed under sail and electric is the best combination: less use is made of the less powerful motors, and recharging is more efficient at 10 or 15 knots than at 8!
More specifically, the Panther 48 has a sleek design with a marked inverted deck line and a coachroof that’s been particularly well integrated in terms of design. The range under power can reach 800 nautical miles thanks to low fuel consumption and 1,120 square feet (104 m²) of solar panels. An 11-kW backup generator is included for added reliability and efficiency. The interior will feature satin black finishes, numerous carbon elements, and a few touches of gray.
