Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Vessev is an innovative company in the field of marine technology, specializing in the design and manufacture of electric boats equipped with foils.
The builder has just announced its latest model, the VS-9 Skye, an electric, foiling dayboat. This new model is based on the proven design of the VS-9 platform which has over 7,000 nautical miles logged in operation. It aims to offer a smoother, quieter, and more efficient day of boating than any other craft available - and there are lots of them in this market sector!
“With the Skye, we have reimagined what a dayboat can be,” explains Eric Laakmann, co-founder and CEO of Vessev. “It’s not just about going electric, but about creating a superior experience for boaters. We want to offer them a truly innovative product that’s going to turn heads."
The Vessev executive notes that the U.S. motorboat market remains robust, with approximately 240,000 new units sold in 2024 alone, but that the boating experience itself has remained unchanged for decades - heavy fuel consumption, bumpy rides, and layouts that have remained largely unchanged.
In fact, the VS-9 Skye is a game-changer thanks to its retractable foils (which make taking the ground and shoal draft navigation easier) and its electric propulsion system capable of providing a range of 50 nautical miles.
The deck plan is divided into three distinct areas: a large daybed in the center, bowrider-style seating forward, and a relaxation area aft, with a large table ideal for meals and socializing.
The first deliveries of the VS-9 Skye are scheduled for 2027.
