Dragonfly 33

The Dragonfly 33 retains the Swing Wing system that allows the floats to be folded in, but also incorporates several solutions developed for the recent Dragonfly 36 (see MW202). Three wave-piercing hulls, a redesigned cockpit, twin steering wheels and an open transom: the departure from the 32 is quite significant.

Construction has also evolved, with three glass/vinylester sandwich hulls with Divinycell cores, infused beams and forward structural bulkhead, while the aft bulkhead is made entirely from infused carbon. The centerboard and rudder can kick up in the event of an impact, and all three hulls feature watertight forward bulkheads.
All sail-handling lines are led back to the cockpit and notably handled by four Ronstan electric winches. Beneath the coachroof, the accommodation remains compact but well suited to cruising: a galley with two burners and an oven, two sinks, 32 US gal (120 l) of water and a bathroom with a 21 US gal (80 l) black-water tank. Power is provided by a 30 hp Yanmar with saildrive and an 18 US gal (70 l) fuel tank.
Two versions have been announced. The Touring features a 49'10" (15.2 m) carbon mast, a 538 sq ft (50 m²) mainsail and a 291 sq ft (27 m²) genoa, giving 829 sq ft (77 m²) of upwind sail area. The Performance features a 56'5" (17.20 m) carbon mast and Elvstrøm EPEX sails of 646 and 323 sq ft (60 and 30 m²), bringing the upwind sail area to 969 sq ft (90 m²). Both versions are claimed to be unsinkable and compliant with CE Category A.
