Green Navy, a company based in the Finistère region of western France, and a subsidiary of the Vallair group, is developing Prometeo, a catamaran capable of carrying 196 passengers without polluting emissions, at its site in La Forêt-Fouesnant, Brittany.
Currently in the initial production phase, this almost 80-foot (24-meter) aluminum multihull is equipped with high-efficiency electric propulsion combined with optimized propellers. The motors are powered by buffer batteries. On-board hydrogen provides a complementary energy source with a capacity greater than that of the batteries. The combination of hydrogen and oxygen from the air in two fuel cells produces electricity, which then recharges the batteries.
“This innovative solution enables Green Navy to deploy a maritime transport solution with zero CO2 emissions, no noise, no odor, and no vibrations, offering greater range and reduced time alongside,” explains Charles Cardi, CEO of Green Navy.
The target range is 160 miles at a speed of just over 8 knots: Prometeo, soon to be available for bareboat charter, could also, in the medium term, be sold to ferry companies or public authorities responsible for inter-island crossings, bay crossings or trips out to sea.
