Here at Multihulls World, we’re always delighted to welcome the first launch of a new model. The Wider Yachts shipyard has been attending the main ‘multi-friendly’ boat shows for several years now, and their WiderCat 92 has featured prominently in our Forever Green category since the 2022 Power Multihull Buyer’s Guide... but the most important stage was still to be reached: to go from a project based on 3D images to an electric powercat that requires two massive cranes to finally splash in the marina at Fano in Italy.
First and foremost, of course, is the futuristic design, with its emphasis on natural light thanks to imposing glazed surfaces on the sides of the nacelle. Another highlight of the WiderCat 92 is its cockpit, which can be converted into a beach club using fold-down bulwarks. Of course, the new powercat differs from ‘traditional’ production boats in its choice of electric drivetrain: two 500 kW motors are powered by LiFePO4 batteries, guaranteeing a range of 27 miles at 6 knots. And there’s 1,615 square feet (150 m²) of solar panels to ensure energy self-sufficiency at anchor. We look forward to bringing you a full review of this powercat very soon.
